THE Chipotle Buckeyes
Ohio State and Chipotle are partnering together for a school-wide deal, which will serve over 1,000 Buckeye athletes. It’s simple: Every week, each Ohio State athlete will receive one free entrée a week from the Mexican food chain.

“Typically, only a few star athletes secure NIL deals and brand partnerships,” Chipotle’s chief brand officer said of the agreement, “But we wanted to reward all Buckeyes with real ingredients to support their pursuit of academic and athletic excellence.”
It’s worth noting that Chipotle just lost their CEO, Brian Niccol, to Starbucks. If the new regime’s marketing strategy continues to swing toward younger clientele, expect Chipotle to increase their NIL spending on college campuses. (More)
The DI Council is Shaking Things Up…
The Division I Council is proposing radical changes that would eliminate complicated obstacles to athlete compensation, per a new report. Discussions, which could be finalized as early as October, include altering rules around how agents can operate in the college sports space, eliminating the National Letter of Intent, and more.
One of the proposed changes involves changing the NCAA’s policy about prize money. Right now, athletes in sports like golf can’t accept prize money winnings because they’re classified as “amateurs.” This made national headlines last January when Alabama golfer Nick Dunlap missed out on a $1.5 million payout.
NIL did more than introduce money to the college sports landscape. With litigation ongoing about athlete employment, revenue-sharing models, and more, the NCAA is in a mad scramble to avoid even more antitrust lawsuits, which is likely the purpose of these changes. (More)
Auburn Football Players give back with NIL
In a recent press conference, Auburn head coach Hugh Freeze explained that some of his players are using NIL to keep kids out of the foster care system. According to the coach, a few football players donated their own NIL earnings to thirteen families in Alabama to ensure there’s support for the children.
“They’re blessed with scholarships and financial things,” Freeze said during a press conference, “Obviously, we want to give back. We were able to, last week… That’s something I’m really, really proud of. Proud of our kids that said, ‘Coach, I want to help and be a part of that.’ That’s something that I hope continues to grow throughout the year.”
Auburn will face off against the University of California today, and could climb into the top 25 if they take down Oklahoma later this month. With success comes NIL – so expect the Tigers to continue giving relative to their on-field success. (More)
