🏅High School football player turns down $750K
Plus, UNC football is "lowballing" players in the transfer portal
Hey there,
In today’s edition, we’ve got some pretty crazy stories. First, a high school edge just turned down a nearly-million dollar offer to transfer out of state. Then, we examine why North Carolina is struggling in the transfer portal market. Finally, the new enforcement arm for college sports is officially here. All of this and more is coming up in this edition of NIL Wire – let’s get into it!

High School Stud Shuns $750K Offer
If you think college players are getting paid too much, look away for this one: An Alabama high school player was just offered $750K to transfer out of state for next football season. The craziest part? He declined the offer.
Cameron Pritchett is indeed a five-star edge prospect, so the money will come eventually. But he’s not even the first person from his high school to turn down such a deal – last year QB Trent Seaborn declined a similar offer, which would have forced him to move to Florida. NIL isn’t allowed at the high school level in Alabama.

“It’s important to me that my legacy is built on integrity, hard work, passion and faith,” Pritchett said of the situation, “I want to do that at Thompson.” (More)
UNC is Having Portal Woes…
College football’s hectic offseason has seen over 3,200 players transfer so far – 2,600 of which were FBS scholarship players. The spring transfer portal closes on Friday, which means some of these players need to find a home, and quick.
North Carolina has been an interesting program to follow in the transfer portal market… and not necessarily for good reasons. Reports are coming out that they’re “lowballing” players, unwilling to spend even close to market rate ($500K) for an offensive lineman.

It begs the question of where exactly the money is going. A stipulation in Belichick’s contract demands that the school spend at least $13 million in rev-share, and increase their NIL spend from $4 million to $20 million. (More)
The NIL Enforcer is Here
As the House Settlement looms, Power Five conferences have officially implemented the College Sports Commission, which will become the enforcement arm of the new college sports governance system. The LLC was filed in Delaware last week.
What will the CSC do? Well, a massive part of enforcement will run through the NIL clearinghouse, which will determine whether NIL deals are “true NIL” or could be classified as an inducement. We have a whole All-Access story on that here.
The newly formed College Sports Commission will likely be a defendant in many future lawsuits.
It will be the new entity in charge of enforcing the terms of the House settlement (if approved).

The goal here is to outsource some of the enforcement of college football from the conferences and NCAA and toward a different entity. The LLC is expected to name a CEO soon to oversee the entire operation. (More)
