🏅Schools are manipulating the cap for next season
Plus, an update on the best selling NIL Store athletes of October
Hey there,
Thanks for tuning in before college football. In today’s edition, we’re talking about how schools are manipulating the rev-share cap to sign players to their football teams. We’ve also got the highest NIL sellers for the month of October, and Hugh Freeze’s frustrations with recruiting players from his current roster for next season. It’s all coming up right now.

Rev-Share Cap Manipulation for 2025
To skirt the impending rev-share cap, some schools are front-loading deals to free up money down the road. This isn’t even a secret – just ask FSU athletic director Michael Alford, who openly said “It’s the one year you can manipulate the cap.”
Here’s how it will work: the House rev-share will begin July 1st… But schools can front-load contracts for early enrollees by paying them before that time, (January through June), so that they don’t count toward the projected $20M rev-share limit for 2025. Then, their “salary” won’t contribute to the following year’s cap.
If schools are willing to pony up big money for unproven talent, then it could be a big win. However, both parties lose the ability to adjust the terms of the contract if teams are doing this – potentially forfeiting flexibility down the road. (More)
The Top NIL Earners for October
The NIL Store just announced their top earners for the month of October – schools, male athletes, and female athletes. The lists are topped by the usual suspects, but that’s not to say there’s not newcomers close behind.
As far as schools go, Indiana led the way last month, followed by Boise State, UConn, and Purdue. All of those schools seem to constantly appear in the NIL Store’s best-seller lists – UConn and Purdue’s basketball success last season played a huge role in their 2024 NIL Store dominance.
As for players: Boise State’s Ashton Jeanty has been leading the way for men’s athlete sales as he continues his Heisman campaign. On the women’s side, UConn’s women’s basketball sensation Paige Bueckers has been leading the way for some time, but Boise State’s goth volleyball player Nora Hyad is close behind. (More)
Hugh Freeze is Re-Recruiting his Own Players…
With only one in-conference win this season, Auburn’s 2024 campaign hasn’t exactly gone to plan. However, that’s not exactly stopping coach Hugh Freeze from being proactive about getting his players back next year.
“You’re already actively having to engage in conversations with recruiting your current roster,” Freeze said, “Which is not much fun and not something that I know of any coach that’s really for, but it is what it is.”
NIL’s rapid ascent (combined with the newly unleashed transfer portal system) has completely upended how roster building looks in the new era of college football. No one can assume the team will look the same year-over-year – not even the players currently on campus. (More)
Teaming up with
Purdue University and the Boilermaker Alliance Collective were one of the first to launch Teamworks Wallet, a digital banking solution built specifically for student-athletes that is completely fee-free. This innovative technology creates a win-win scenario for both student-athletes and administrators.
The impact of fee-free payments is profound. Consider this “NIL Math”:
The average NIL deal at Power 4 institutions is approximately $4,191.
Typically, NIL transactions incur processing fees ranging from 2-5%, alongside platform fees that can add up to 30% on top of the total deal value.
If 250 student-athletes receive a $4,000 monthly payment and utilize Wallet for these transactions, their combined savings from avoiding traditional fees could surpass $980,000.
This isn’t just a small savings—Wallet represents a monumental shift in how student-athletes receive and manage their finances. Discover how Purdue is leading the charge and explore how Teamworks Wallet can transform your institution.
