šŸ…College Hoops is back

Plus, why can't Harvard land low-income recruits anymore?

Hey there,

In all its glory, college basketball has finally returned. I call this part of the calendar year the ā€œgolden eraā€ ā€“ college footballā€™s in full swing, college basketball is ramping up, and the holiday season is fast approaching. Soak it all in ā€“ March Madness will be here before you know it.

Speaking of college basketball, Rick Pitino just proposed a college hoops ā€œsuper leagueā€ to solve the sportā€™s reliance on college football; Harvardā€™s AD speaks out on how NIL could affect their recruiting heavily; and two SEC athletes made Forbesā€™ best creators list. Itā€™s all coming up right now ā€“ letā€™s get into it!

Pitino Wants a College Basketball ā€œSuper-Leagueā€

Rick Pitino wants to combat footballā€™s supremacy over the college sports landscape. His solution? Am eighteen-to-twenty-team college basketball ā€œsuper league.ā€ Yes, really.

Hereā€™s his reasoning: conference realignment, media rights, and just about every other facet of college sports is determined by the massive college football cashflow every year. If college basketball wants to survive, theyā€™d need to bring in enough money to gain some level of financial independence.

Enter a college basketball ā€œsuper leagueā€ with the biggest brands and best teams playing every night. Stay tuned for our next All-Access edition, where weā€™re looking at what a super league like this could even look like. (More)

LSU Continues NIL Dominance

Forbes just released their list for the top creators of 2024, and a pair of NIL-savvy LSU athletes made the list. Livvy Dunne ā€“ Gymnast-extraordinaire turned social media sensation ā€“ came in at #31, while basketball players and part-time rapper Flauā€™jae Johnson ranked #37 on the list.

Flauā€™jae Johnsonā€™s got nearly four million followers across TikTok and Instagram, not to mention sheā€™s posting collaborations with industry legends like Lil Wayne. Dunne, on the other hand, casts an even wider net with over 13 million followers across those very same channels.

Dunneā€™s ranking is seventeen spots higher than it was in 2023, when she was 48th, whereas and this is Johnsonā€™s first time on the list. They are the only two student-athletes to make it in 2024. (More)

Harvard Canā€™t Land Low-Income Athletes Anymoreā€¦?

Harvard isnā€™t handing out NIL deals anytime soon ā€“ in fact the entire Ivy League has, more or less, decided to steer clear of investing into the NIL landscape. But even Harvardā€™s AD knows that decision has consequences.

In an interview, Athletic Director Erin McDermott admitted that ā€œHarvardā€™s inability to compete on name, image, and likeness deals ā€˜could have an effectā€™ on the recruitment of low-income students in certain sports.ā€

Despite being some of the wealthiest educational institutions in the world, no Ivy League schools have invested into building a serious NIL collective presence. Less NIL money means less reason for an athlete ā€“ especially low-income recruits ā€“ to pick Harvard. (More)

When you experience pain, itā€™s typically the result of electrical signals being sent from the location of the pain to your brain.

The worse the pain, the stronger the signal.

Kailoā€™s patented technology uses micro capacitors to ā€œturn offā€ these pain signals like a light switch ā€“ providing natural relief, anywhere on your body, in seconds.

Itā€™s one of the first products on the market to use microtechnology for pain relief, and itā€™s available at an affordable price.

Stick it on your knee, back, neckā€”wherever youā€™re experiencing pain.
