KICK-OFF
West Virginia is Opening an NIL Restaurant
West Virginia’s NIL collective just announced that it will open an NIL bar and grill in Morgantown. A portion of the revenue will go directly to the Country Roads Trust, meaning every meal served at the restaurant contributes to the school’s NIL efforts.
The pub-style restaurant is set to open before West Virginia’s football opener later this month, a brilliant move that will allow them to turn pre-season optimism into food and drink sales.
The venue will operate as more than just an additional revenue stream. The school’s collective will also use it as a home base for tons of NIL events – such as launch parties for their wildly successful NIL alcohol initiatives. (More)
The Lamborghini Longhorns
Remember Texas’ controversial Lamborghini-fueled NIL recruiting tactic? Well, despite the immense criticism, Lamborghini Austin seems undeterred in its NIL investments in the Longhorns. The dealership just announced two football studs as promotional partners for the 2024 season: Isaiah Bond and Michael Taaffe.

While the local dealership has made headlines recently, they’ve actually been investing NIL money in the Texas Longhorns since the very beginning. Former Longhorns to become promotional partners include Bijan Robinson, Jaylan Ford, and Jordan Whittington – all now in the NFL. (More)

Interestingly enough, Nebraska’s Lexi Rodriguez topped the list of the highest-valued NIL volleyball players in the country as a libero. She’s joined by three outside hitters in the top four.
Rodriguez isn’t the only Cornhusker to top the charts, either. Nebraska’s continued investment in the sport has positioned them as the epicenter of college volleyball. Five of the top seven volleyball NIL valuations are Nebraska players. (More)

DOWN TO BUSINESS
States May Fight House Settlement Further
According to reports, Attorney Generals from multiple states are considering whether to challenge the House v. NCAA settlement in court. At this point, Montana and South Dakota are leading the charge, with states like Tennessee also mulling whether or not to join them.
The heart behind their frustration is easy to understand. As neither state houses a big-time revenue-generating program, they will likely take a similar line of reasoning as Houston Christian University—arguing that they’re paying too much in damages relative to the bigger programs.
It’s hard to tell whether those arguments will hold up yet, as Judge Claudia Wilken previously denied Houston Christian’s initial attempt at legal intervention. The AGs may have to get creative to detach themselves from the million-dollar price tag heading toward their schools. (More)
Jacksonville State’s Rich Rodriguez says players should be under NIL contracts: “The people who they should have talked to regarding legislation was the coaches.”

Texas Tech Signs GM to Big Money 💰️
Just a few weeks after landing softball sensation NiJaree Canady for over one million dollars, Texas Tech just doled out another wad of cash – this time to James Blanchard, the school’s college football general manager.
Texas Tech is giving GM James Blanchard a new two-year deal worth $800K total, per source. Tech officials believe this will make Blanchard one of the highest paid GMs in college football.

The Red Raiders seem to think they’ve struck gold on Blanchard, who head football coach Joey McGuire deemed “the best evaluator in college football” a couple of years ago. Blanchard followed McGuire to Texas Tech after they shared a stint at Baylor.
Talent evaluation has become a booming industry in college sports. Since schools can only dole out a finite amount of money, making sure they’re spending it effectively has never been more important. (More)
North Carolina just consolidated their multiple NIL initiatives into a single collective – further streamlining their overall NIL strategy.
