Georgia Tech Signs Recruit to a 3-Year NIL Deal

Georgia Tech just beat out powerhouses Ohio State, Florida State, and Tennessee in a recruiting war for a five-star offensive tackle. The key to their success? A multi-million-dollar agreement, spread over the course of three years.

Now, the multi-million-dollar agreement part is nothing new – elite recruits have been getting paid millions since NIL came around in 2021. Interestingly though, schools have reportedly been very careful not to promise money past one year.

This is to keep their financial flexibility intact. If a player doesn’t perform as expected, the school and collective want to preserve their ability to move the money elsewhere. Goergia Tech is taking a substantial risk by doling out millions to a player who hasn’t even played a snap in college yet. (More)

CSU Football Players Confirm Tampering Rumors

Colorado State head coach Jay Norvell took a lot of flak after he called out some schools by name for NIL tampering. His players have his back, though – star wideout Tory Horton and QB Brayden Fowler-Nicolosi just confirmed everything their coach has been saying, and more.

Both players admitted to being offered $600K to transfer – with Fowler-Nicolosi specifically being offered by Kansas State.

"I didn't come here to make money,” he said, “I came here to win games and play ball for the Rams. I think if we play ball here, we do our job… I think the money will come eventually. My job in college isn't to sit here and try to make as much money as I can.” (More)

Two New NIL Platforms Enter the Market

Two NIL apps just released that you should probably keep an eye on: the first is called “booster” (yes, with a lowercase b), and the second is called Launchpoint. They’re both unique to the space, so let’s talk about each one.

“booster” is trying to allow student-athletes to benefit from their NIL by offering exclusive content: Gaming livestreams, videos, pictures, and more. 80% of the revenue they generate on the platform, they keep.

Launchpoint, on the other hand, is being backed by Caleb Downs – the Alabama-turned-Ohio State safety. This app will operate similarly to other NIL service providers, offering a “one stop shop” for NIL dealmaking. While exclusively available to Ohio State athletes right now, Downs figures to expand the operation to other schools very soon. (More)
