🏅CFB Commissioner Prospects: Nick Saban

Could the GOAT coach save college sports?

Hey there,

Today we’re continuing our series on potential college football commissioner prospects. Today’s pick? The greatest college football coach of all time, Nick Saban.

Why should he be commissioner? Why shouldn’t he be? Oh, and because I’m a history nerd, I’m also giving him a presidential doppelganger as well – that is, the American President who most closely aligns with how he’d run college football as commissioner. What can I say? We’re havin’ fun with it.

We’ve been through this before – the idea that college football needs a commissioner isn’t exactly breaking news. But recently, there’s been confirmation that there will indeed be a CEO to the enforcement entity for the House Settlement. The jobs would be different… but it’s not out of the realm of possibility that one of our commissioner candidates could land this job.

Regardless, calls to create a central, authoritative figure to run college sports are hitting a fever pitch. No one seems happy with how things are going… so why not get a no-nonsense commissioner in the position to make the hard decisions?

That’s what this series is all about. Over the next bit, we’re looking at prospective candidates for college football commissioner the way political pundits evaluate presidential hopefuls. We’ll size them up, weigh the strengths and weaknesses, and hand out a “presidential doppelganger” for a fun, final touch (hopefully there’s some other presidential history dorks out there like me who will appreciate it). The thought experiment: maybe the ideal candidate isn’t as obvious as we think – or maybe it’s the type of person whose name has been whispered around tailgates and message boards for years.

Today’s candidate? Nick Saban. You may have heard of him a time or two.
