🏅 CFB Commish Prospects: Tommy Tuberville
Could the coach-turned-senator save college sports?
Hey there,
There’s been a lot of smoke around this notion that college football needs a commissioner. But who would be the right person for the job?
Today we’re kicking off a series of potential commissioner prospects for the sport we all know and love. And who better to start the list off with than the firebrand football coach-turned-senator from Alabama? Today we’re evaluating whether or not Tommy Tuberville would be a good option for CFB commissioner.

The idea that college football needs a commissioner isn’t novel. In fact, the idea’s been around for a while now – but it’s never been quite as… real… as it feels right now. Why?
Well, a number of reasons. First and foremost, trust in the current governing body – the NCAA – is virtually nonexistent. Then there’s the issues surrounding matchup scheduling, especially exacerbated by recent conference realignment. Of course, there’s also the fact that Congress has been unwilling to act on anything surrounding college sports, whether it be regulating NIL contracts, passing legislation to clarify athlete employment status, ect... And that’s not even to begin discussing things like reworking the obviously defunct payment structure around the sport.
Maybe the college football world could use a heavy hand to make the hard decisions. But then another question arises – who would it be?

That’s what we’re focusing on in this new series. Over the next year, we’re going to be evaluating potential commissioners for college football and basketball. We’re going to vet them like political candidates, looking at their strengths and weaknesses. Oh, and we’re trying to cast a wide net here – remember, Condoleezza Rice was once a candidate for the Cleveland Browns head coaching position. Maybe the answer is less obvious than we think it is.
At the end of each edition, we’re going to give a political doppelganger for each candidate – a fun way to think about how this person might govern (and be perceived) if picked. Sound fun? Good, because we’re starting off hot.
Today’s candidate is none other than college football coach-turned Senator, Tommy Tuberville.
